PORT AUX BASQUES – After a mother fox and her kits were spotted near Marine Atlantic last week, Wildlife officers from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture placed live traps on Thursday, May 27, hoping to capture the family. The den is located approximately 10 metres from the roadway at the turn between the Trans Canada Highway and Route 470 (Granite Coast Highway), and one kit has already been killed according to area residents. Anyone passing through the area are asked to slow down and watch for the foxes, and to avoid stopping in the area to feed or disturb them. Once the foxes are trapped, Wildlife officers will relocate them to a safer spot.
